Board of Directors

Lindsey Cadot (President) became active in Maine's environmental community by typing up Maine Audubon's full Annual Report over a lunch hour in the early 70's. She continued her affiliation with Audubon, participating in their early field trip program, serving on the Board of Governors of Mast Landing Sanctuary in Freeport, and eventually serving on their Board of Directors. In 1999 Ms. Cadot volunteered with the Nature Conservancy and Maine Coast Heritage Trust helping support the Land Bond measure. For the following six years she worked as development assistant at Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Currently she volunteers for Maine League of Conservation Voters and Maine Conservation Voters Education Fund in their office. Areas of interest include theatre, hiking, kayaking, x-country skiing, and working her organic garden in Freeport, where she and her husband Andy have lived for many years.

Megan Hellstedt (Treasurer) is the Environmental Affairs Specialist for Hannaford Brothers Co. She earned her Masters degree from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies where she focused on environmental sustainability planning for coastal systems. Ms. Hellstedt has been a board member of the Morris Farm Trust in Wiscasset since 2001. In her free time, she is a Big Sister to a twelve-year old girl and enjoys gardening, knitting, and house renovation projects. She and her husband, Erik, live in Brunswick.

Steven Hufnagel grew up along the Mianus River in Bedford, New York, where he was engaged in local land use politics. He attended Williams College and graduated in 1996 with a B.A. in geology and environmental studies. Mr. Hufnagel spent several years in Seattle where he served as an environmental education and outreach consultant to natural resource agencies and was an active volunteer for Washington Conservation Voters (WCV). In 2003 he earned an M.S. in Resource Policy and Behavior from the School of Natural Resources & Environment at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Mr. Hufnagel has since served as the director of land protection and stewardship for the Damariscotta River Association, a land trust in midcoast Maine. He resides in Damariscotta with his wife Liza Fleming-Ives and their daughter Audrey. You might see him in costume on the stage of the Waldo Theatre, in hiking boots anywhere between Bradbury Mountain and the Himalayas, or on skis wherever the snow falls.

Brigitte Lehner Kingsbury (Secretary) is Executive Director of the Orchard Foundation. She is currently on the Maine Philanthropy Center board, the Maine board of the Conservation Law Foundation, and the advisory board of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust. She previously worked as an assistant editor for economics at Cambridge University Press in New York City and as a researcher for Bower, Rohr & Associates in Hanover, NH, an economic consulting firm specializing in regulated industries. Ms. Kingsbury served a term as a representative to the Portland Water District Board of Trustees. She has also served on the boards of the Friends of Casco Bay, the Cape Elizabeth Recycling Committee, the Fort Williams Charitable Foundation Study Committee and the Natural Resources Council of Maine. She received her AB in political science from Brown University, and her MIA in international political economy from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. Ms. Kingsbury lives in Cape Elizabeth with her husband and two children and spends her free time hiking, sailing and skiing.

John F. Lambert, Jr. is a founder and shareholder of Lambert Coffin. His practice consists of diverse administrative and trial work including complex corporate litigation, antitrust litigation, majority-minority shareholder disputes, and employment benefits and discrimination litigation. He also does employment and labor counseling and governmental relations advocacy before the Maine Bureau of Insurance and the Maine Legislature. Mr. Lambert is a member of the Maine State Bar, as well as the bars of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He graduated from Middlebury College and George Washington University School of Law. He has served as a member of the Cumberland Town Council, as Vice Chairman in 1996/7 and Chair in 1997-1999. Mr. Lambert resides in Cumberland with his wife and three daughters.

Jonah Rosenfield teaches Physical Science and Environmental Science at Waynflete School in Portland, Maine where he also serves as the school’s Diversity Coordinator. Committed to environmental education and working with young people to become active members of their communities, Mr. Rosenfield has worked closely with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System (GoMOOS), and UNH to connect his students to environmental issues in their region. Prior to teaching, Mr. Rosenfield worked at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA, Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and for the Scripps Institute of Oceanography where he studied the effects of sunlight radiation on primary productivity in Antarctica. Mr. Rosenfield graduated from Bowdoin College in 1993 with an A.B. in Biology and Environmental Science and holds Master’s degrees from American University (M.S., Environmental Science) and Harvard University (Ed.M.). Mr. Rosenfield is also the Director of Finance for the Cambodian Arts and Scholarship Foundation (CASF). Mr. Rosenfield lives in Cape Elizabeth with his wife Kristen, their 11 month old son Asa, and their golden retriever Denali.

Angela Twitchell worked as Government and Community Relations Coordinator for the Nature Conservancy’s Maine Chapter from 1999-2003. She managed the successful campaign to pass a $50 million Maine public land bond (1998-1999) and worked for Project Vote Smart from the project’s inaugural year in1991 through 1997, directing the project’s voter information and research services. Ms. Twitchell is a graduate of Bates College and studied ecology in the Brazilian rain forest through the School for International Training. She is a member of the Topsham Conservation Committee, Secretary of the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, and past board member of the League of Women Voters-Brunswick Area. A Maine native, Ms. Twitchell grew up in Turner and currently resides in Topsham with her husband Scott, son Hayden, and twin girls, Eliza and Maggie.

Staff

Maureen Drouin is the Executive Director of the Maine Conservation Voters Education Fund. Before coming to MCVEF, Maureen was the Northeast Regional Representative – Manager for the Sierra Club in Portland where she advanced conservation at the state, regional, and federal levels. Maureen has worked for National Audubon Society on their Wildlife Refuge Campaign and served as Regional Outreach Director for the Northern Forest Alliance. She graduated with honors from Bowdoin College with a coordinate major in Geology and Environmental Studies and completed a one-year fellowship program with Green Corps, the field school for environmental organizing. Tracy Gregoire (Outreach Coordinator) was born and raised in Maine. After graduating from Bates with an Environmental Studies major and teaching certification, Tracy worked as the Coordinator and Educator of the Auburn Land Lab, a K-12 environmental center. She most recently served as the Coordinator for Many and One, a coalition working to end racism through education, legislation, and community action. Tracy lives with her husband Steve and their pets in Topsham. Email Tracy.

Rani Corey Sheaffer is the Development Director of the Maine League of Conservation Voters. She brings more than ten years of fundraising, organizing and political experience to her position. She has worked as the Director of the Massachusetts Environmental Collaborative, Field Director for the Center for Environmental Citizenship, and as a volunteer for the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters. While raising her two young children, she worked part-time with Maine Rivers to establish a membership database and fundraising program. She is a 1996 graduate of Green Corps, the field school for environmental organizing and a 1995 graduate of Hartwick College with a degree in political science and environmental studies.
